A Note:

6/2/13

I once told myself: IF I am accepted into grad school, this blog would no longer be updated. As it turns out, in April, I received news of my acceptance for the Fall 2013 semester, where I will attain a Master's degree of Science in Nutrition.

Running a blog, as many of you may already know, is a demanding side job once the excitement wears off. And once I fell out of the blogging community's loop (have you SEEN how many blogs there are now? Wow!), it was like the kiss of death. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get into a blogging routine once this happened due to the disconnect I felt from the community.

So I took a break. I struggled with the loss and with missing my blog. And then I realized I didn't have to run Book Faery to still be a book reviewer; I could read my books and post reviews online. I'm still a book review blogger, just not in the traditional sense.

I'll still be online. You can chat with me on Twitter, where I'll be posting links to my reviews and talking books. I'll also be posting links to nutrition articles. And if you'd like to connect with me where I guarantee I will post reviews, just add me as a friend on Goodreads.

So that's all, folks! It's been a fun and amazing journey, and I thank you all for listening to my thoughts about books. I hope we all can keep in touch elsewhere :)

A Vampire's Kiss by Laura Stamps

Sara Gadsden is a Wiccan Green Witch addicted to paranormal romance novels and their gorgeous vampire heroes. Like most people, she has no idea vampires actually exist until she meets Drayton Manigault at a Samhain party. Dray is not only one of Columbia's wealthiest businessmen, but he's also been a vampire for the last 145 years. Oh, and he's totally yummy. When Dray offers Sara a job working for his computer company, Manigault Technologies, fantasy collides with reality, and Sara's future is suddenly transformed into one wild, smokin' HOT ride!

Obtained: First 3 chapters courtesy of the author
Genre: Erotica/Paranormal Romance
Series: The Manigault Vampires
1.  A Vampire's Kiss
     -Vol. 1 No. 1
My Rating:
Chapters 1-3 were a great start to what I hope is a funny, interesting story!

My Opinion:
Dray and Sara are sizzling, and Laura's writing style definitely makes it easy to imagine that electricity and attraction between the two.  The start to this piece--the party--was kind of slow for me, but the following day/chapter picked up and left me wanting more.

What I would have liked to see was an explanation about how vampires could go out in daylight.  But maybe the explanation is later in the book.  I was, after all, only able to read the first three chapters.

I must say that I was disappointed to find myself flying through the first installment to this so quickly--and before anything steamy happened!  And it was definitely unfair to have Chapter 3 end the way it did.  :(  VERY unfair!  Do you hear me Ms. Stamps!?

This is an interesting twist to how we read books.  Instead of publishing a paperback or hardcover to this new series, Ms. Stamps will be introducing a set amount of chapters monthly, which you can buy at her website for $1.99 each.  If you don't have an e-reader (like me), it's easy to attain a file to read on your computer instead.

If you're still a bit unsure about diving into this new book, Laura posts chapter 1 up on her blog for a nice little preview.  I definitely think it's worth checking out if you're in the mood for a steamy read.

  1. Thanks, Tori!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed the first installment. Yes, I do explain about my Daywalker vamps later in the novel. But couldn't do that in the first 3 chapters because that's part of the fun. Sara doesn't think vamps exist. lol

Yeah, I do write a fast pace, and I have a habit of putting cliffhangers at the end of my chapters. I hear from my fans who read "The Witchery Series" novels, of which the vamp series is a spinoff, that they can't stop reading and finish a novel of mine in about 3 hours.

As for steam, well, the next two chapters are smoking hot! Because this is a novel I like to build up to the sex because you want to feel chemistry between the h/h. But I always like to have hot sex in the first 50 pages too. And Dray is HAWT! Whew, what a sexy vamp. lol

    Thanks again!

  2. Well Tori... After reading your review, I have to admit that it makes me want to read this even more to find out what happens. But this is the first time I have ever heard of buying the chapters like that.I wonder why? After reading what Ms. Susan had to say about your questions... she seems to enjoy teasing her readers, lol... which is a good thing. Keeps you in suspense of what is to come. Thanks for the heads up on this. Sorry it took me a while to get here! Hope all is well my friend!
