Cover Wars: Dearly Departed VS The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

Cover Wars
(inspired by Kate's Throwdown Thursday at The Neverending Shelf)

Cover Wars is a weekly post occurring every Monday at Book Faery.
Two covers will have a "face off," and it will be up to the readers to
decide who is the victor and who is the loser.  This is a great way for
readers to have their voice be heard, while also promoting new/old books
in the process.

Last week we had a showdown between Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry, and Handling the Undead by John Ajvide Lindqvist.

The Winner:

Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry

Dearly Departed vs The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

Both covers are dark with themes that seem to represent death.

Which do you prefer?

  1. I don't think I can be unbiased in this. Eep. I am DYING to read the Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, so I think the cover in imprinted in my brain. I'll go out on a limb and say maybe I would still pick Mara even if I wasn't already obsessed...

  2. I'm torn between these two; while I like the image in Mara, the font is somewhat distracting for me. In DD, the font doesn't interfere with the image, and I like the graveyard in the background.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses. I think I'm torn with the choices for this week's battle :/

  5. I really like the Dearly Departed cover. I love the deep red colors and it just looks spooky.
I may have seen the MD cover too much and now it doesn't have much impact on me anymore. I like the title more than the cover. I'm way too practical - why are they in the water fully clothed? lol

Also my hubby saw the DD cover and asked if it was steampunk, I said yes how did you know? He said all steampunk girls have umbrellas. He's right.

  10. MARA DYER all the way! The only other cover that compares to Mara Dyer is Matched by Ally Condie. :) Fun Feature!

  14. I love Dearly Departed.. I love the colors and it has a beautiful haunting look to it. I love Mara Dyer as well but I think i've seen it around too much for it to have an affect on me anymore.
