A Note:

6/2/13

I once told myself: IF I am accepted into grad school, this blog would no longer be updated. As it turns out, in April, I received news of my acceptance for the Fall 2013 semester, where I will attain a Master's degree of Science in Nutrition.

Running a blog, as many of you may already know, is a demanding side job once the excitement wears off. And once I fell out of the blogging community's loop (have you SEEN how many blogs there are now? Wow!), it was like the kiss of death. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get into a blogging routine once this happened due to the disconnect I felt from the community.

So I took a break. I struggled with the loss and with missing my blog. And then I realized I didn't have to run Book Faery to still be a book reviewer; I could read my books and post reviews online. I'm still a book review blogger, just not in the traditional sense.

I'll still be online. You can chat with me on Twitter, where I'll be posting links to my reviews and talking books. I'll also be posting links to nutrition articles. And if you'd like to connect with me where I guarantee I will post reviews, just add me as a friend on Goodreads.

So that's all, folks! It's been a fun and amazing journey, and I thank you all for listening to my thoughts about books. I hope we all can keep in touch elsewhere :)

  • Bitter Frost by Kailin Gow
  • The Phantom Diaries by Kailin Gow
I received these both thanks to Sparkle Soup.  Bitter Frost was another title that I had seen throughout numerous blogs that I was interested in.  Upon requesting it, I also received The Phantom Diaries.  Will probably be reading/reviewing & then doing a giveaway for the latter, so stay tuned!

  • Plain Kate by Erin Bow
  • Another Faust by Daniel & Dina Nayeri
Plain Kate is a review copy I received.  I'm so happy I got it!  I was pretty bummed when I discovered that this book was at BEA, and that I missed out on it :(

Another Faust is a book I bought used.  It came horribly deformed, and the dust jacket, as you can see in the picture, is ripped.  I ended up getting a refund, and the seller let me keep the book (seriously, it looks like someone karate chopped it and dented the entire thing lol).  My friend was reading this book and said it was kind of strange.  From the way she described it, I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to feel about it.

Meagan is a huge sweetheart.  She had mailed me a few prizes for the Battle of the Sexies (which I received last week and didn't get a chance to add to the other IMM), and included a signed copy of her new release which came out on July 1st!  So, you can expect to win a copy of the book in August, and I'm going to be re-reading this sucker now that it's printed on paper, and isn't destroying my vision via laptop screen.

  • The Darkest Lie by Gena Showalter
  • Hunger by Jackie Morse Kessler
I won a copy of The Darkest Lie thanks to Jackie from Housewife Blues and Chihuahua Stories.  Yes, it kind of explains why I don't have my review up... because I could guarantee you that I would have been at the bookstore and would have finished Gideon's story by now.  Thank you so much Jackie!  I cannot wait to read this book :)

I also got Hunger via the we love YA ARC tour.  Once I heard the snippet for this book, I instantly knew that I had to read it.  Horsemen of the Apocalypse?  Really?  So there.  It's been an engaging read thus far.

Anyway that's it for me.  What did you guys get in your mailboxes this week?
