If you followed Book Faery back in June 2010, you may remember an old feature I ran for a few weeks: Cover Wars (see older posts here). You may also remember that, due to a chaotic schedule (and the first Battle of the Sexies), I cut this fun little showdown out from the blog schedule shortly after.
Much to my chagrin, I've never really had an opportunity to revive this fun post--until now. Thanks to one of my great blogger friends Amanda (@AnthrBookJunkie), our wonderful feature will be back on the blog!
Please give a warm welcome to our new guest poster, who will be running Cover Wars on Mondays from now on! Over to you, Amanda :)
Cover Wars
(inspired by Kate's Throwdown Thursday at The Neverending Shelf)
Two covers will have a "face off," and it will be up to the readers to
decide who is the victor and who is the loser. This is a great way for
readers to have their voice be heard, while also promoting new/old books
in the process.
A Beautiful Evil vs Shifting
Both books are upcoming YA releases
The covers both feature a strong piece of symbolism, the snake, representing elements that actually have very little in common.
Which do you prefer? Why?
--Amanda
I'd pick A Beautiful Evil just because it just looks more interesting to me. It fits its title. Displaying a beautiful girl and a snake to represent evil.
ReplyDeleteI prefer A Beautiful Evil.
ReplyDelete1) It's not a close-up of the protag's face, like so many other YAs have done.
2) ABE's got a nice color balance. SHIFTING is washed out, and that shade of green (at least on my monitor) does not draw my eye to the snake--which seems to be the whole point of the cover. It actually took me a while to notice the snake at all because the model's expression kept distracting me.
3) SHIFTING's cover model reminds me of Anna Paquin, and we all know how I feel about her between ruining Rogue in X-men and then playing the role of Sookie.... :P
I just love the SHIFTING cover because of her hair! Though I wish they'd left the snake the same color as her hair.
ReplyDeleteThe simplicity of it would catch my attention first. I usually stray from covers with a lot of cover.
However they're both beautiful covers & now I'm all interested.
Gracias chica.
I prefer Beautiful Evil over Shifting because its sense of mysticism; the model is giving us her back, her face is hidden! The snake flows straight from her hair--it looks natural! Black catches my attention moreso than the other and the title is enticing. :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck!

Can Alex save Winter from the darkness that hunts her?
YA Paranormal Romance, Darkspell coming fall of 2011!
I like this feature a lot! I think that both covers are really nice. I hadn't heard of either one, but they're both on my Goodreads now!
ReplyDeleteI like them both, but I think A BEAUTIFUL EVIL is my favorite. It has more interesting points to look at and a better color balance. I also like that it's the model's back, though that reminds me a bit of SWEET VENOM.
And Tori's, I also think that SHIFTING reminds me of Anna Paquin a bit!!
I don't really like either, because I have a serious snake phobia. But, if I HAD to choose, I'd go with A Beautiful Evil.
