The wonderful people at Penguin are offering a copy of A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES by Deborah Harkness to celebrate the novel's print release.
A richly inventive novel
about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch, and the mysterious
manuscript that draws them together.
Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana
Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the
course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of
witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive
glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her
discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of
daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has
stumbled upon a coveted treasure lost for centuries-and she is the only
creature who can break its spell.
Debut novelist Deborah Harkness has crafted a mesmerizing and
addictive read, equal parts history and magic, romance and suspense.
Diana is a bold heroine who meets her equal in vampire geneticist
Matthew Clairmont, and gradually warms up to him as their alliance
deepens into an intimacy that violates age-old taboos. This smart,
sophisticated story harks back to the novels of Anne Rice, but it is as
contemporary and sensual as the Twilight series-with an extra serving of
historical realism.

A Note:
6/2/13
I once told myself: IF I am accepted into grad school, this blog would no longer be updated. As it turns out, in April, I received news of my acceptance for the Fall 2013 semester, where I will attain a Master's degree of Science in Nutrition.
Running a blog, as many of you may already know, is a demanding side job once the excitement wears off. And once I fell out of the blogging community's loop (have you SEEN how many blogs there are now? Wow!), it was like the kiss of death. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get into a blogging routine once this happened due to the disconnect I felt from the community.
So I took a break. I struggled with the loss and with missing my blog. And then I realized I didn't have to run Book Faery to still be a book reviewer; I could read my books and post reviews online. I'm still a book review blogger, just not in the traditional sense.
I'll still be online. You can chat with me on Twitter, where I'll be posting links to my reviews and talking books. I'll also be posting links to nutrition articles. And if you'd like to connect with me where I guarantee I will post reviews, just add me as a friend on Goodreads.
So that's all, folks! It's been a fun and amazing journey, and I thank you all for listening to my thoughts about books. I hope we all can keep in touch elsewhere :)
