A Note:

6/2/13

I once told myself: IF I am accepted into grad school, this blog would no longer be updated. As it turns out, in April, I received news of my acceptance for the Fall 2013 semester, where I will attain a Master's degree of Science in Nutrition.

Running a blog, as many of you may already know, is a demanding side job once the excitement wears off. And once I fell out of the blogging community's loop (have you SEEN how many blogs there are now? Wow!), it was like the kiss of death. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get into a blogging routine once this happened due to the disconnect I felt from the community.

So I took a break. I struggled with the loss and with missing my blog. And then I realized I didn't have to run Book Faery to still be a book reviewer; I could read my books and post reviews online. I'm still a book review blogger, just not in the traditional sense.

I'll still be online. You can chat with me on Twitter, where I'll be posting links to my reviews and talking books. I'll also be posting links to nutrition articles. And if you'd like to connect with me where I guarantee I will post reviews, just add me as a friend on Goodreads.

So that's all, folks! It's been a fun and amazing journey, and I thank you all for listening to my thoughts about books. I hope we all can keep in touch elsewhere :)

New Rating System

I’m in the process of revamping my rating system.  Letter grades made me think too much of school, so now, I’ve introduced something similar to a 5 star rating system.  Instead of stars, there will be wings so it relates to Book Faery.

Here’s an exploration of what each rating means (you can see each on the sidebar) and what I will generally be giving.

Wing Ratings:

5 wingsLoved it.
4 wingsReally liked it.
3 wingsLiked it.
2 wingsIt was okay.
1 wingsDidn’t like it.

There will also be half wings.  Think of these as a happy medium between the other ratings.

The Faerie of Honor Rating:
Now, along with the 1-5 wings rating system, there will also be a highly esteemed rating for books that have blown me away.  These books, while extremely rare, do exist.  To learn more about this level of excellence—at least in my eyes!—go over here :)

Overall Analysis:

  • 3-5 wings: are all positive ratings.  The average for most books I’ve enjoyed.  EXAMPLE: 5 wings ~ A+ ; 4.5 wings ~ Borderline really liking it and loving it.
  • 2 wings: the book had some redeeming qualities, but could be improved. I might buy the next book if I feel strong enough about the author’s potential for improvement.
  • 1 wing: I either couldn't finish it, or finished it and disliked it way too much. Will mention if I did not finish the book.

I bought a bunch of books this week.  I received a couple yesterday, however, I will be including them in next week's IMM.  So everything you see here = prizes from giveaways I won :)

So for this first giveaway, I got 8 books in that box up there!  If you talked to me on Twitter earlier this week, then this is the package of books I refused to talk about LOL.  I thought the package was from an author for a future event I have planned for everyone in August, but nope.  The super awesome Katie @ Katie's Book Blog sent these to me.  Thank you Katie! =)

  • (ARC) Forget Her-Nots by Amy Brecount White
  • The Eternal Kiss by numerous authors (I almost died when I saw how many I love)
  • (ARC) The Sweet Disorder by Jacqueline Kolosov
  • Radiant Darkness by Emily Whitman

  • Stargazer by Claudia Gray
  • Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard
  • Pencils and a notepad
  • (ARC) Heist Society by Ally Carter

And the coolest book title EVER.
So cool, it deserved its own picture muwahaha
    • (ARC) I am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to be Your Class President by Josh Lieb

And then I also received one of my prizes from another giveaway! This one's from Crystal @ My Reading Room.
    • $20 Amazon Gift Card
...Which I so used to buy Tim Tams...YES!  Mama's gonna be eatin' some yummy chocolate biscuits soon.

      So that's it for me.
