A Note:

6/2/13

I once told myself: IF I am accepted into grad school, this blog would no longer be updated. As it turns out, in April, I received news of my acceptance for the Fall 2013 semester, where I will attain a Master's degree of Science in Nutrition.

Running a blog, as many of you may already know, is a demanding side job once the excitement wears off. And once I fell out of the blogging community's loop (have you SEEN how many blogs there are now? Wow!), it was like the kiss of death. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get into a blogging routine once this happened due to the disconnect I felt from the community.

So I took a break. I struggled with the loss and with missing my blog. And then I realized I didn't have to run Book Faery to still be a book reviewer; I could read my books and post reviews online. I'm still a book review blogger, just not in the traditional sense.

I'll still be online. You can chat with me on Twitter, where I'll be posting links to my reviews and talking books. I'll also be posting links to nutrition articles. And if you'd like to connect with me where I guarantee I will post reviews, just add me as a friend on Goodreads.

So that's all, folks! It's been a fun and amazing journey, and I thank you all for listening to my thoughts about books. I hope we all can keep in touch elsewhere :)

Guest Post with Jus Accardo

Two peas in a twisted pod

by Jus Accardo

I’ll be honest. I kind of envy my heroine in TOUCH, Dez. She’s confident, outgoing, and let’s face it—she’s got Kale. Lately people have been asking me if I’m anything like her. The truth is—we share some traits...but not intentionally... Here’s how Dez and I measure up.

Confidence with the guys - Dez is confident with the guys. She plays it cool and leaves a trail of broken hearts in her wake. At her age, I was a walking disaster with boys. I had one boyfriend during high school and I caught him trying suck the face off a friend of mine. Now if that had been Dez, she probably would have done something epic to get back at him. Something like, oh, I don’t know…setting his car on fire? Me? I did set his car on fire—but it was totally by accident. No less epic, but not intentional. No points for accidental property damage.

Adrenalin Junkieness – Dez is always looking for the next big thrill. She’s train surfed, skateboarded off roof tops, and jumped from moving vehicles. I too jumped from a moving vehicle. Well…I didn't’t exactly jump. I kind of fell out. And we weren't moving really. More like crawling. The car was pulling up to a red light. In five o’clock traffic. You haven’t lived until twenty cars have honked their horn to salute you for face planting in the middle of rush hour.

Personality – Dez is outgoing. She’s got tons of friends and everyone wants to be around her. She’s fun loving and can pretty much chat up anyone anywhere. Me? Good luck. I’m as shy as they come if I don’t know someone. Look up the word in the dictionary and there’s a good chance you’ll see my picture. On the other hand, people I know can’t shut me up. Seriously. They've threatened to use duct tape on occasion…

We do sync on some stuff though. We’re both suckers for tattoos (Dez is currently mulling over her first one while I debate my next) and piercings (we’re both debating a new one). We both hail from the open mouth insert foot school of speech. We each have an amazing, badass guy that has our back (ironically both with K names!). We can both throw a mean right hook! And music? Oh, yeah. The girl has wicked taste in tunes.

So what about you guys? Who do you envy and why?

When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect.

  1. awesomesauce post, Jus! I've read many of them with you, and I have to admit, this is my favorite :-)

I envy Dez too for having Kale . . . and her general kick-ass-edness. Yes that is not a word, but I'm going with it!

Besides that, I would say I envy my main character in mine as well. She is a talented artist--I can't draw a straight line--and she gets to go back in time to Renaissance Florence? Seriously, how cool is that?

    Hugs!
