A Note:

6/2/13

I once told myself: IF I am accepted into grad school, this blog would no longer be updated. As it turns out, in April, I received news of my acceptance for the Fall 2013 semester, where I will attain a Master's degree of Science in Nutrition.

Running a blog, as many of you may already know, is a demanding side job once the excitement wears off. And once I fell out of the blogging community's loop (have you SEEN how many blogs there are now? Wow!), it was like the kiss of death. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get into a blogging routine once this happened due to the disconnect I felt from the community.

So I took a break. I struggled with the loss and with missing my blog. And then I realized I didn't have to run Book Faery to still be a book reviewer; I could read my books and post reviews online. I'm still a book review blogger, just not in the traditional sense.

I'll still be online. You can chat with me on Twitter, where I'll be posting links to my reviews and talking books. I'll also be posting links to nutrition articles. And if you'd like to connect with me where I guarantee I will post reviews, just add me as a friend on Goodreads.

So that's all, folks! It's been a fun and amazing journey, and I thank you all for listening to my thoughts about books. I hope we all can keep in touch elsewhere :)

BEA 2011 Photos

Book Expo America, for those of you who don't know, is one of the largest publishing conferences there is. Thousands upon thousands of people attend this event--and for good reason. Who wouldn't want to either meet a bunch of amazing authors/bloggers, or discuss where the book industry is headed? For BEA 2011, Italy was the guest visitor. Next year in 2012, it will be Russia.

This year, the wonderful coordinators extended the conference so that it lasted from Tuesday to Thursday. Monday was the preliminaries (more for those heavily involved with the publishing industry), and Friday was Book Blogger Con. Unfortunately, I have no news of publishing directions, but I do have pictures of some authors and signings from Tuesday and Wednesday! Click on the link below to see all the photos from BEA.

Hopefully these pictures will help convince you to start saving up for next year's BEA conference in Manhattan, NY. They've pushed the date back so that it now takes place during June, which means you've got a few extra days to save that coffee money for an airplane ticket or a hotel room.

Warning: this is an image heavy post.

Day 1: Tuesday

This is just a general picture of the autographing area and what you'd typically be doing for about 80% of the time.

Gena Showalter!
I kind of had a fan-girl moment where I forgot how to speak, and I started grinning like an idiot and bouncing in place when she remembered my name.

Pigeons running around in Javits.

Leanna R Hieber and I right before her signing of DARKER STILL.

Richelle Mead signing BLOODLINES at the Penguin booth. The line for this signing was chaos personified.

Richelle Mead up close!

Ellie Krieger from the Food Network. Now they need to have Bobby Flay or Giada come and I will totally have a conniption.

Day 2: Wednesday

8:15 AM at Javits as we all wait to enter the publisher's area.  That line you see? It went all the way around the corner and to the other side of the building. This is about mid-line too. There were plenty of people behind me.

I wanted to hijack that car after lugging around so many books.

They painted these steps with the little happy face with vampire fangs last year. I think I like that one better lol.

CLOCKWORK PRINCE reveal with one of the cover models.

Love how they were so bright and attractive in the Harlequin area.

IF I DIE looks like it should be a movie poster.

Lauren Oliver signing Part 1.

Lauren Oliver signing Part 2.

Lauren Oliver signing part 3.
The people at Javits made the entire line combine a couple of adjoining rows because it was so long, and there were STILL people in the waiting area. That signing definitely took longer than the allotted hour.

Ally Condie signing in the Penguin area. If you followed people on Twitter who attended BEA, then you heard all of us freaking out about how long her line was! Thankfully, it wasn't as chaotic as Richelle Mead's signing, and the line moved fairly quickly.

Melissa Marr signing GRAVEMINDER. She had some pretty cool swag too.

Ugh, I cant remember this character's name...!

Me with the pig after piggie's escort insisted I take a picture with her.
...that is a pig, right??

  5. @Dazzling Mage: Right!? I fangirled a lot this year. It's a great place to be. I could only go for about 4-5 hours per day this year due to finals, but even that was okay because the people made those hours AMAZING!! I was so depressed on Thursday when I couldn't go back. I miss it!

  11. This has completely convinced me that I'm going to make the trip over from Australia next year. Don't know how I'll get all the books home but that's something to think about later. :D Hope to see you there!

  12. @Nicci: Very crazy, and very fun! I'll be sharing the Bloodlines love soon enough :)

@Savannah: I hope you can make it next year!

@Alexia & @Chrystal: I have been informed that yes, her name is Olivia lol!

@Alice: Aww I'm sorry. I know exactly what you mean though with the jealousy lol. There's still quite a few books I couldn't get at BEA that I wish I could have because they sound so awesome.

@Manda: Shipping! That's what a lot of people do. Maybe you could make a deal with a blogger who couldn't make it and split the books/shipping costs. That, or you just grab the books you *really* want.
