A Note:

6/2/13

I once told myself: IF I am accepted into grad school, this blog would no longer be updated. As it turns out, in April, I received news of my acceptance for the Fall 2013 semester, where I will attain a Master's degree of Science in Nutrition.

Running a blog, as many of you may already know, is a demanding side job once the excitement wears off. And once I fell out of the blogging community's loop (have you SEEN how many blogs there are now? Wow!), it was like the kiss of death. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get into a blogging routine once this happened due to the disconnect I felt from the community.

So I took a break. I struggled with the loss and with missing my blog. And then I realized I didn't have to run Book Faery to still be a book reviewer; I could read my books and post reviews online. I'm still a book review blogger, just not in the traditional sense.

I'll still be online. You can chat with me on Twitter, where I'll be posting links to my reviews and talking books. I'll also be posting links to nutrition articles. And if you'd like to connect with me where I guarantee I will post reviews, just add me as a friend on Goodreads.

So that's all, folks! It's been a fun and amazing journey, and I thank you all for listening to my thoughts about books. I hope we all can keep in touch elsewhere :)

BOTS 2: Jennifer Armentrout

by Jennifer Armentrout

I’m going to go with Caleb, from Half-Blood, as my favorite secondary character, mainly because I knew him better than I do other characters from different books.

I love Caleb. He’s the kind of guy every girl needs as a best friend. And because I’m a fan of bullet points, I’m going to use them to list the ways Caleb is awesome.

1. He’s not too sensitive
He doesn’t get upset if you don’t call him when you said you would or didn’t tell him about the guy you kissed. Caleb would probably actually prefer that you didn’t call him and tell him about the guy you kissed.

2. He’s amused by random acts of cursing or hitting
Caleb has a mouth on him. There is no four letter word you could string together that’s going to embarrass him.

3. He’ll never borrow your clothes and not return them.
He’s a dude. He’s not going to wear your favorite shirt. Enough said.

4. He’ll always, ALWAYS be there for you
Even if you freak out on him, he’s going to be there for you.Caleb will put himself in danger to protect his friends, and even in the craziest, sickest situations, he’ll crack a joke.

5. He will tell you will you’re being stupid.
If you’re about to do something really dumb or have already done something idiotic, he’ll tell you. That’s an invaluable trait, I believe.

Cons of a BFF relationship with Caleb?

1. Do NOT ever let him clothing shop for you
If Caleb ever offers to go buy some clothes for you—refuse. Or you may just end up looking like an exotic dancer about to hit the stage.

Caleb is probably one of my favorite characters to write. He’s funny, charming and I think you will love him just as much as I do. Thanks for having me!

Giveaway

One lucky winner will receive the following, plus swag:

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals—pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards... and that she'll never be prepared for that duty.

According to her mother, that’s a good thing.

But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return—the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death… because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill.

The daimons have found her.

  2. I like all those points in a sidekick / secondary character, but yeah, not going to let him buy clothes for me. I especially like "He'll always, ALWAYS be there for you," that's a biggie.

  3. Caleb sounds like a cool sidekick. It's nice that he's not too sensitive (can think logically in situations if hero/heroine is incapacitated), and he'll always be there for you (can have someone to talk to and a shoulder to lean on if needed). I need a sidekick like that!

  4. Sidekicks are the best and usually love when they are developed and beneficial to the story almost as much as the main character. Caleb sounds awesome. I'd love to have a sidekick that would always be there when I needed him.
