A Note:

6/2/13

I once told myself: IF I am accepted into grad school, this blog would no longer be updated. As it turns out, in April, I received news of my acceptance for the Fall 2013 semester, where I will attain a Master's degree of Science in Nutrition.

Running a blog, as many of you may already know, is a demanding side job once the excitement wears off. And once I fell out of the blogging community's loop (have you SEEN how many blogs there are now? Wow!), it was like the kiss of death. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get into a blogging routine once this happened due to the disconnect I felt from the community.

So I took a break. I struggled with the loss and with missing my blog. And then I realized I didn't have to run Book Faery to still be a book reviewer; I could read my books and post reviews online. I'm still a book review blogger, just not in the traditional sense.

I'll still be online. You can chat with me on Twitter, where I'll be posting links to my reviews and talking books. I'll also be posting links to nutrition articles. And if you'd like to connect with me where I guarantee I will post reviews, just add me as a friend on Goodreads.

So that's all, folks! It's been a fun and amazing journey, and I thank you all for listening to my thoughts about books. I hope we all can keep in touch elsewhere :)

BOTS 2: Kendra Leigh Castle

For Your Consideration…   by Kendra Leigh Castle

Name: Jaden Harrison

Story: Dark Awakening by Kendra Leigh Castle

Species: Vampire, Cait Sith bloodline

Height: 5’11

Hair: Black, chin-length

Eyes: bright blue

Build: slim & athletic

Likes: cooking, moody brit-rock, the color black, guyliner, being a cat, his freedom

Dislikes: the entire Ptolemy dynasty of vampires, crowds, following orders, werewolves, TV dinners

Quote: “We gutterbloods have to stick together.”

Why Jaden is the sexiest sidekick going: Jaden Harrison is a centuries-old vampire whose bloodline, that of the cat-shifting Cait Sith, made him a virtual slave to the powerful dynasty known as the Ptolemy. Tortured for questioning his masters, he fled, and while in hiding found himself thrown back together with one of his closest friends, Tynan MacGillivray. Though Jaden wasn’t sure about Ty’s obvious infatuation with the mysterious Lily Quinn, a human meant to be delivered to the Queen of the Ptolemy in order to save her dynasty from a gypsy curse, he stuck by his friend.

Loyalty: very sexy! He won Lily’s heart by making her comfort food (cooking: also sexy!), and ultimately risked his life fighting for her freedom, and that of his kind. You already know what I’m going to say, but…courage is all kinds of sexy. So I present, for your consideration in the Battle of the Sexies, a cat vamp both dark and delicious, the man who inspired Jared Leto’s whole look during his Goth phase (but still does it better), a creature so intriguing that he will soon get to be tormented by true love in his very own book, Jaden Harrison!

Now, far be it from me to resort to bribery, but I do have a small prize pack to dangle before you as…incentive. Included is a signed copy of Dark Awakening, a special promotional sampler called Taste of Darkness, given out only at RWA and Comic-Con this year and featuring teaser chapters from upcoming Forever Romance releases, a Dark Awakening bookmark, and a Dracul dynasty tattoo. One commenter on today’s post will be selected to receive it, and Jaden’s undying (no, really) gratitude.

In the meantime, I have a question for you! Jaden’s story, Midnight Reckoning, will be released in January, Do you like it when the sidekick gets his own story? Who’s your favorite romance sidekick of all time? Thanks for stopping by and please…support feral cat vamp rescue and vote Jaden

For centuries, shapeshifting vampire Tynan MacGillivray has prowled the night as an outcast, valued only for his ferocious hunting skills. When a feud among the immortals escalates into all-out war, he is ordered by his ruthless queen to locate a Seer-a human woman with a special gift-who can secure victory for their clan. Ty's search leads him to a quiet New England town, but once he has the Seer in his grasp, her touch awakens within him a hunger like he's never known . . .

Lily Quinn has always been different. Since childhood, she's had vivid nightmares and an eerie sixth sense. When a sexy, silver-eyed stranger demands her help, Lily plunges into a new world of danger and sensuality. With Ty, she discovers sizzling passions she cannot deny and powers she cannot control. Soon, it is clear that Lily is much more than a Seer-she holds the key to ancient secrets and unthinkable destruction. But will a vampire's vow of eternal protection stop these evil forces . . . or unleash her dark destiny?

  1. I don't have a favorite sidekick..oh wait..actually I do. Michelle Hauf's Severo. Well, he wasn't so much a sidekick as he came up in a lot of her books before getting her own.

    So I think that counts.

And nice! A Gaelic myth mixed in with a vampire. Always nice to see from the every lovely Kendra

  2. Hey Lou! Thanks for coming by! Yeah, I totally think that counts as a sidekick. Jaden's not a traditional sidekick either, but he's a friend, he helps, so...I think it's close enough:) I'm glad you like the sound of the book! I like to mix it up with the myths and legends. They're fun to play with!

  3. I love when sidekicks get their own story! I'm actually excited about the upcoming book but then again I get excited about any of Kendra's books :D

  4. Love it when sidekicks get their own story. They are there to help their "family" make it to their happy ending so of course I want to see that they get their's too :)

Favorite sidekick, would have to say it would be Cynthia Eden's Niol. I guess he isn't a true "sidekick" but he was always there helping when he wanted to, you don't demand too much from a level 10 demon :)

Loved DARK AWAKENING!!!! January can't get here fast enough to read Jaden and Lyra's story, I know it's going to be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Hi Ana! That's sweet of you to say...you know I love having you as a reader:)

Hi Michele! I'm the same way. I always fall in love with secondary characters and want them to have their own stories:) And no, LOL, I guess you can't demand too much from demons in general! Thank you SO much for loving Ty and Lily's story...I hope you love Jaden's just as much!

Sandy, me too! Thanks for coming by:)

  7. I'm not sure if this counts as a sidekick but series books like Alyssa Day and the Atlantis series or Lara Adrians breed series. Each character gets there story and they're all tied together like one big family. I love it like that. Your book sounds great and thanks for the chance to win. 8. I love "sidekicks"...although the definition is probably different for each of us. I just finishing reading Amy Blankenship's Blood Bond series and there are several sidekicks and I loved them all and was happy that they got their own story and HEA. Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series another winner when it comes to awesome sidekicks with their own stories.
I am reading Dark Awakening, on page 256...and I mean it when I say that you are by far my best find of the year. I absolutely love Ty and Lily...and Jaden and Damien and I'm damn glad they both will have their stories told.
I'm so glad I found this blog and had the opportunity to leave you a message.
Thank you Kendra for one hell of a book.

  10. I like it when sidekicks get their story, especially if it's a sidekick I like. It's really nice to give the sidekick a chance to be the star for once. I don't really have a favorite sidekick so far though.

  11. I love reading sidekick stories. When you initially meet them, they are in the background, but you really get to know them in their own story. As far as favorites, all of them. I'm a readaholic so I have too many favorites to list.

Love, love, love Dark Awakening and I can't wait for the next one!! This series is definitely one of my "keepers"

  14. Tanya, I LOVE the Atlantis books! And I'm just starting the Midnight Breed series. Meeting characters and then seeing them get their own books is one of the reasons I love series so much:)

Cindy, you are AWESOME, thank you so much! What an amazing compliment. I'll be cruising on the good vibes for days!

Barbara and Amy, I totally feel the same way. Not sure I have a favorite sidekick either, though I'm a huge fan of the Wallflowers books by Lisa Kleypas, and each story has the other three Wallflowers playing sidekick...wonderful stories.

BlackwaterMama, WOO, I'm so glad you loved the book!! Thank you!

mrsworldwideweb, my problem is that I often want just about everyone I meet in a story to have their own story, which is not usually doable! But I love connected stories where the sidekicks and secondary characters eventually get a chance to shine.
